John Gessin is pursuing a Masters degree in Information System Technology. John Gessin returned to school to advance his already promising career in the Information Technology field. He has spent eight years building his skills in project planning, local and remote personnel and asset management, best practices implementation, change management during large scale relocations, and disaster recovery and contingency planning. He has worked as an information technology department manager and consultant and has high-level experience with network engineering and multi-OS environment leadership. Before launching his career, John Gessin earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Political Science at St. John College. He has recently worked for Microsoft Licensing GP and Alere Medical Technologies, Inc., both in Reno, Nevada. Striving to maintain his place on the cutting edge of the IT field, John Gessin holds numerous professional affiliations. He is a member of the National Association of Computer Consulting Businesses, the Association of Information Technology Professionals, the Computer & Communications Industry Association, the Society of Information Technology Management, and the Cisco Networking Professionals Connection.  In his spare time, John Gessin  is a volunteer. He also supports the charitable work of Goodwill Industries International and is involved in his local parent-teacher association. A resident of the greater Reno, Nevada, area, John Gessin divides his time between academic responsibilities, community service, and outdoor hobbies. A longtime member of the information technology (IT) industry, he recently returned to school to earn his Master of Science in Information Systems Technology. As a graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno, John Gessin has expanded his technical skill set and learned leadership techniques that will help advance his career. He also holds certification as a Cisco Certified Network Administrator and an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Business Administration. In addition to his academic endeavors, John Gessin sets aside time to volunteer in his community. A mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, he meets at least once each week with his “Little Brother.” Mr. Gessin also tutors local youth and supports Goodwill Industries International, Inc. An active father, he attends meetings and events for the Parent Teacher Association. When he has free time, John Gessin enjoys visiting nearby Lake Tahoe to relax on the beach and go boating, and he finds pleasure in exploring the region's wilderness through hiking and biking. Serving as a consultant, project manager, and IT department manager, he has completed numerous senior IT projects, worked with clients to build and repair servers, and managed personnel both locally and remotely.

Over the course of his career, he has gained expertise in project management, network engineering, and multi-operating system environment leadership. A skilled consultant in the Information Technology and Services industry, John Gessin has more than eight years of experience managing complex information systems. Living and working in the Greater Reno, Nevada area, John Gessin has worked extensively on tasks involving network engineering, overall project management, and multi-OS environment leadership. Mr. Gessin has also accomplished both local and remote personnel and asset management, directed management during periods of corporate change, and provided analysis for disaster recovery and contingency planning. Most recently, John Gessin served as a Network Administrator and Supervisor with Alere Medical Technologies, Inc. in Reno. Alere Medical Technologies specializes in the development of Internet and mobile device-based disease management programs. Mr. Gessin managed the administration and support of the company’s network and data center operations. His work included visits to off-site locations to supervise the installation of applications as well as OS upgrades and hardware changes. Along with completing a technology migration and 300-person move to a new office, John Gessin supervised five colleagues of the remote desktop support team. Prior to joining Alere, John Gessin worked as a System Analyst III and Volt Technical Consultant at Microsoft Licensing GP, also of Reno. In this capacity, he was involved in the design, development, testing, documentation, and implementation of the firm’s technology systems.
